Notes of the Day

Friends of Cr. A. C. McCorkindale will regret to learn that following a relapse of the ’flu he has been obliged to enter hospital. Yesterday at the Feilding Borough Council Chambers the Mayor (Mr. T. L. Seddon) made the Patriotic Society’s presentation to W. 0.2 P. J. de Lacour Tpr. L. Hayward and Gnr. J. W. Mennie, who are all returning to camp. Messrs. 'K. M. Little (Patriotic Society) and C. H. Tate (R.S.A.), were also present. Citizens are reminded of the civic reception to be held in the Drill Hall this evening to returned servicemen. Official invitations have been issued to all known returned men and women and it is hoped that there will be a large gathering. 1 Following the official programme the returned servicemen will be the guests of the civic authorities. Having missed the thunderstorms and torrential rain which the country to the 1 north and east benefited on Thursday last, Feilding welcomed the downpour which came shortly after midday on Sunday. This downpour covered the large area of land which has suffered some- . thing of a real drought for many days and it was the sort of warm steady rain which would do immense good. Although of short duration only, the fall was very heavy. Temperatures were very high on [ Saturday and again on Sunday. At the monthly meeting of the S.P.C.A.. Mrs. Morphy being in the chair, it was stated that the sum of £8 13s 7d was ! collected at the recent copper trail. A vote of thanks was accorded the president and her girl helpers, Misses P. ' Jewell, K. Kinsella and 11. Bower. In- ■ formation on the law relating to the > droving of stock was sought, and it was decided to obtain a copy of the by-law on the subject, it having been asked ■ whether it was legal for drovers or owners to drive sheep from a motorvehicle, thus necessitating a greater speed l for the animals. It was reported by the . inspector that conditions in the saleyards and elsewhere were satisfactory and that ’ no complaints had been received.
