In view of her approaching marriage Miss Valda Townshend, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Townshend, Bainfortli I Street, was the guest of honour at a de- 1 lightful gift party on Saturday afternoon arranged by the bridesmaids, Misses Noeline .Mewett (chief), Joy Morrison and Phyllis Johnston (Turakina). The function was held at the home of the bride-to-be, Rainforth Street, where lovely flowers graced the occasion. Autumn shaded dahlias were artistically arranged in the drawing room, and pink lilies, asters and float bowls of water lilies in the dining room where buffet tea was served. The guest of honour had chosen a smart black afternoon frock and was presented with a pink corsage by Miss Mewett. Games and competitions both indoors and in the pretty grounds occupied the time very happily, pleasure being provided by Mrs. K. Eglinton with vocal solos, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Whalley, and Miss Bobbie Olsen, with piano solos. After afternoon tea Miss Townshend was called upon to open her parcels, there being revealed a fine array of beautiful gifts for the new home. She I feelingly returned thanks to all concerned, Mr. M. Morrison adding an appreciation on behalf of his fiancee and himself. Mr. Morrison also came in for felicitations as he was celebrating his coming-of-age. Miss.Mewett thanked Mrs. Townshend for the use of her home for the party and Miss E. Rawlins added thanks to the hostesses.
