District High “chools and Pal- , merston North Technical High School, competed in the annual secondary schools’ tennis tournament on the Linton Street courts on Saturday. Play was judged to be of a slightly higher standard than last year. Splendid tennis was revealed in the finals. The Innes and Oakley Cup for most points in the gills’ section was won by the Palnxei'ston North Girls’ High School with 40 points. Feilding were next with 20. Convent 11, Foxton 9, Palmerston North Technical 9 The G. 11. Bennett Cup for most points in the boys’ section was won by Pahiatua with 40 points. Next were Palmerston , North Boys’ High School 21 points, Marist 14, Foxton 8, Woodville 6. Boys’ singles: jtt. U'Connell (Marist), Harvey (Pahiatua), J. Snell (Palmerston North) and Hutton (Pahiatua) went to the semi-finals. Harvey beat O’Connell 10—8, and Hutton beat Snell 9—4. Final: Hutton beat Harvey 9—l. Boys’ doubles: The semi-finalists were Ilodd and Swanney (Pahiatua), Yates and Snell (Palmerston North), Hutton and Harvey (Pahiatua) and Kinsella and Oliver (Marist). The verdicts went to Yates and Snell who beat I-lodd and Swanney 9—2, and to Harvey and Hutton who beat Kinsella and Oliver 9—2. Final: Harvey and Hutton beat Yates and Snell 13—11. Girls’ singles: In the semi-finals P. Mackin (Palmerston North) beat V. McGregor (Feilding) 7—3, while M. Borrie (Palmerston North) beat N. O’Sullivan (Feilding) B—6. The final will be played during the week for the J. T. McDonald Cup, between P. Mackin and M Borrie. Girls’ doubles: In the semi-finals M. Borrie and M. Garnham (Palmerston North) boat D. Wittan and E. Wilscfn (Feilding) 11—9. and A. Smith (Feilding) beat E. Lee and K. MeKegg (Convent) 7—2. Final: N. O’Sullivan and A. Smith beat M. Borrie and M. Garnham 7—5. INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS Further matches in the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association's Inter-club series were played on Saturday in the B grade. Palmerston North beat Takaro by 9 sets, 133 games, to 7 sets, 112 games. St. Peter's 13 sets, 98 games, defeated Mllson 3 sets, 61 games.
