Shannon
(From Our Own Correspondent.) It was with deep regret that Shannon and district people read in this week's casualty list the name of Pte. Ruattki (Lewis) Peni, the third son of Mr. and Mrs I. Peni, highly respected residents of Vance Street. The late Private Peni was educated at the Shannon school and the Palmerston North Technical School where in his final year he captained the Ist itfteen llugby team and the Manawatu Thirds representative team which played at Wanganui i'll 1940. He was employed locally by the Public Works Department and sailed for overseas service with the Second Maori Battalion. Mrs. Sherwood (nee Miss Dorothy Best) will be leaving next week to make her home in Christchurch, her husband having received notice of his transfer to a South'lsland Air Force station.
