Home Guard Reunion

A reunion of the Hokowhjtu Battalion of the Home Guard was held on Tuesday evening, ,Major R. W. Priest (officer commanding) presiding over about 200 members and visitors. Also present were Colonels J. H. Mewett, Zone Commander, and C. V. Ciochetto, Regional Commander, Majors J. L. Merton, the Takaro Battalion, and K. M. Little, the Feilding Battalion, also a number of other visiting officers. The visitors were piped to the supper tables. The toast list was: "The King,” Major Priest; "Home Guards,” Captain McKenzie —Lieut. D. Honore; “Hokowhitu Battalion,” Colonel Mewett —Major Priest; "Other Battalions,” Mr. L. G. Rieger—Majors Merton and Little; "Army, Navy, Air Force and Legion of Frontiersmen,” Capl. Linklater—Capt. Keegan and Lieut. W. R. Taylor; “E.P.5.,” Cpl. Brookie —Colonel Ciochetto; special toast and presentation to Major Priest, proposed by Lieut. Dinnan, members of the battalion, and N.Z.T.S.— Major Priest; “Ladies’ Committee,” C.Q..M.S. Scroggs—Lieut. Hayward; “Entertainers,” C.S.M. Dilks—fMr. E. Lowe.
