The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday afternoon. Devotional exercises were led by Mrs. Eckersley. Welcomes were extended to Mesdames Sykes, Foruo and Holland, who had been ill, to h£esdames Webb and McDonald as new members, and Mrs. Alve as a performer. The dates for the patriotic shop were to be August 10, 11 and 12. Mrs. Claridge was appointed convener. It was agreed that a social afternoon be held at the April meeting, members each to contribute half-a-crown or more towards liquidating the mortgage on headquarters. Mrs. Alve sang two much appreciated sacred solos. Miss Jamieson gave a short report of the work of the National Council of Women, mentioning some of the remits considered at the Dominion convention, and various suggestions made by the local branch as to elevating the status of domestic workers, and inducing more girls to assist hard-pressed wives and mothers. Miss R. Edwards gave an account of the new hostel for Maori girls in Auckland, opened and run by the W.C.T.U. It was agreed that at the July meeting (Maori day) contributions be asked for towards this worthy project.
