Russell Street School

The Russell Street School Committee met on Monday night, Mr. D. W. MeDowall presiding. The headmaster (Mr. G. Tangney) reported that the roll number was 190 odd. During the past month as much time as practicable was spent outdoors, but owing to the nonexistence of suitable parks, trees and streams in the neighbourhood full advantage could not bo taken of the wonderful weather. Owing to the water shortage the opportunity of furthering the children’s swimming education was denied thorn. The health ot the children had been good and a high percentage of attendance had been recorded. The staffing of the school was on a liberal basis and efficiency should be raised. On Monday afternoon members of the dental clinic staff, Misses Wimsett and Dawson, staged a display and delivered lecturettcs to the children and attendant parents on the various aspects of dental welfare, from which great benefit should result. The Education Board advised that the environment certificate for the school had been endorsed for 1943. The Board congratulated all concerned for the high standard which had been reached in connection with the indoor and outdoor environment of the school. Arrangements for the gala day to be held at the school on Saturday, March 18, were discussed. Messrs McDowall and R. Haddon were appointed a visiting committee.
