Rangiwahia

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The children’s and adults’ swimming sports proved to be an outstanding success. Many of the events were keenly contested as the day proved to be very suitable for swimming. A large crowd was present at the farewell evening tendered yet another lad leaving tlie district of Ruahine to enter the R.N.Z.A.F. and join his fellow-men in the forces overseas. Mr. Guthrie, on behalf of the Patriotic Committee, made the usual presentation and wished the guest, Aircraftman Alex McMillan, a safe return to his homeland. Mrs. Smith, on behalf of the Sewing Guild, made a presentation of a kit of knitted comforts, also extending best wishes. The evening took the form of a dance to music supplied by Messrs. R. and M. Thompson with extras by Mr. M. Thompson. Children of the Rangiwahia School held their annual sports on the Domain. A large attendance of parents and friends was present to take part in the many competitions of the day. Ladies and helpers provided afternoon tea. Hare Crashes Through Windscreen An extraordinary accident occurred on the lioto-o-rangi Road (Auckland) on Saturday morning when a largesized hare crashed through the windscreen of a motor-car owned and driven by Mr. C. J. Bennett, of Kairangi. The driver, who did not see the hare until it appeared in midair over the bonnet of the car and coming straight at him, received several cuts to the face and eyelids. He had just time to close his eyes and push on the brake when the crash came. When Mr. Bennett recovered from the shock the hare was lying on the floor of the car dead. Fully three-quarters of the windscreen was smashed.
