Rongotea

(From Our Own Correspondent.) During the course of their tour of inspection of schools in the southern part of their district, members and officials of the Wanganui Education Board visited the Rongotea School on Wednesday morning. The party consisted of the chairman (Mr. F. Hemingway), the secretary (Mr. G. N. Boulton), members of the Board (Messrs. Mudford and Batchelor) and the architect (Mr. E. R. Hodge). They were met at the school by Messrs. Amies, Rowe and C. M. Lind. Mr. Hemingway addressed the senior scholars, after which a lull inspection was made of the school and grounds, and various matters were noted for future attention. Mr. Hemingway stressed the willingness of the Board at all times to do everything possible for the schools of the district, but explained the difficulty of obtaining both materials and labour, lie congratulated the staff and committee on the excellent appearance of the school and grounds. Lunch was dispensed at the school by Mesdames C. M. Lind and C. W. Davison, who were thanked for their generous hospitality. The Coronation Hall was packed on Thursday evening, when local residents gathered in force to honour servicemen and women who had returned with the last furlough draft. These were Sister Isabel Maxwell, V.A.P- Theona Rose, Staff-Sgt. H. C. Eades, Cpl. J- Brown and Pte. G. Baylis. Cpl. D. Lunn was unavoidably absent. A concert programme pi-esented by Mr. J. Cooper and his versatile party of entertainers was appreciated. Mr. E. N. Rowe, addressing the guests on behalf of the R.S.A., assured them tha. his association would do everything possible to look after their interests. Mr. W. Amey, chairman of the Rongotea Social Club, expressed the esteem in which the guests were held by the community and called upon each to accept
