Oroua County Council
The Oroua County Council met at Feilding yesterday, Cr. A. B. Shannon (chairman) presiding. There were also present Crs. T. Green, W. G. Page, B. McLeod, W. G. S. Romley, R. Stewart and W. McLennan. A letter was received from the chairman of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council advising as to the forthcoming election of a representative from the combined counties of Oroua, Kiwitea and Pohangina. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman (Cr. Shannon), the county clerk (Mr. Harding) stating that he had taken action to advise the other counties of the position. Lengthy details relating to the setting up of a local committee in case of any national disaster or epidemic were received from the Medical Officer of Health. The county !erk stated that the information related to the machinery which would be invoked in such an event and the steps to be taken by the county had been noted. The Treasury advised that a loan amounting to £775 had matured and further stated that the county debt now stood at £15,000. Cr. Green remarked that in 1015 a number of loans would mature to substantially reduce the debt of the county. In connection with the county finances it was reported that the county fund account, was in credit £l3lO 13s. Of the rates levied, £15,1.75 7s (id, a total of £14,615 8s Id had been paid. The chairman considered this very satisfactory. Rate arrears on account of the three previous years stood at £856.
