County Council Affairs

The monthly meeting of the Pahiatua County Council was held yesterday. Present: Crs. A. W. Bisset (in the chair), F. V. Bryant, F. T. Horne, C. H. Hodgins, F. \S. H. Bolton, R. S. Ellingham, A. H. Eglinton, J. E. Nelson and T. Eouhy. A letter was received from Mr. J. Wishall requesting an increase on dog tax commission.—A resolution was passed that this year’s commission on all dogs registered bo increased from 3d to Gd, subject to the regulations concerning tho stabilisation of rates of pay. A letter w*as received from the Eketahuna County Council expressing appreciation to tho Council for the assistance given in making metal available. In connection with N.Z. Counties Insurance Co., the Council agreed to apply for its share allotment of £752 and pay tho sum of £37-3, being a call of 10s a share. Mr. Pavitt (consulting engineer) reported that the drawings for the Tuatakere bridge -were finished but were to be finally approved by the P.W.D. and traced. ‘ Mr. Bisset said this matter w*as very urgent and lie considered the bridge very dangerous. Jt was resolved that the county clerk point out the great urgency of this bridge to the P.W.D. with a request that monetary authority bo made immediately. The chairman, clerk and overseer were deputed to wait on the P.W.D. in connection with the erection of a new bridge. W r itli to McFarlane’s bridge, the following resolutions were passed:— “That the Council contact the P.W 7 .D. in reference to the protection works at McFarlane’s bridge, asking for their concurrence in proceeding with the same.” “That tho department be asked to report on the contention of the settlers below* the bridge as to the likelihood of erosion being caused by the construction of the groynes.”
