Nip Money Allowance

“Nip” money, a novel item connected with the expenditure of patriotic funds, was mentioned by the secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, Mr. G. A. Hayden, during an address at Greymouth. He explained that it was a weekly allowance made to padres on shipboard and elsewhere. It was recognised that they were “fair game” for men seeking financial assistance, and the allowance was made to cover requirements when men “put the nips in.”
