Woodville W.L Annual Meeting

On Tuesday was held the most important Woodville Women’s Institute meeting held for the year, the annual meeting preceded by the March meeting. Owing to Mrs. E. J. Harding’s inability to be present due to her mother’s (Mrs Gillespie) continued illhealth, Mrs H. McNeil acted as secretary for both meetings. The stage had been decorated with dahlias and gladioli by Mesdames Terry and Wood of the Garden Circle. Mrs. N. M. Burnett who presided thanked all who had helped with the baby’ show and social afternoon, said that Mrs Rhodes had invited the Instituto to hold a garden party as part of its programme in her garden on March 18th. Two new members, Mesdames Styles and Meech, were given a welcome. Mrs. Forbes appealed for knitters for 144 pairs of sox which are required for patriotic parcels by June 17th. The wool can be obtained from Mrs. Vickers. In connection with this effort a competition is being held, the winner to be the member who knits the most sox. Competition winners for March meeting were: Best bloom, Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. H. Giles equal 1, Miss Mathieson 2, and Mrs Vickers 3. Miss Oliver showed a handkerchief made from a salt' bag and Mrs H. Giles exhibited a thrift effort —an Bft. square hand-worked rug, made mainly from silk stockings (cut into strips) and worked into an attractive design. Hostesses were Mrs Bibbv (senior), and Mesdames Whiteman, Whitney and Vickers (taking the place of Mrs Worboys who has her right hand in bandages through rescuing her little daughter from burning recently*) and Misses Millner and Seed. Tho 19th annual meeting then took place and all reports told the same story —of steady progress. The Institute roll stood at S 9 with an average attendance of 65. The Garden Circle has 65 members with an average attendance of 40, and tho hall is within sight of being paid for. Much patriotic work has been done by members. It was decided that members bring their own “nosebags.” A cup of tea will be provided at threepence. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs Burnett; committee, Mesdames Bell, H. Giles, C. Forbes, Jti. McNeil, Henry*, Faulkner, W. Philips, W. Seed, T. Walker, Paddy and Misses D. Millner and E. Bailey*.
