Traffic was held up for over half-an- 1 hour at the Gorge bridge (Woodville end) at noon yesterday while the topdressing of the bitumen surface was carried out. About 20 men, five trucks, a mobile tar sprayer and a midget roller were all pressed into service for a quick job, but nevertheless quite a long queue of cars formed at each end before the way was open again for traffic. One wonders how many vehicles would have congregated there in prewar days. Colonel Rignold, the Field Secretary for the Salvation Army in New Zealand, will be visiting Woodville next Monday, and Mill conduct a public meeting in the Salvation Army Hall that night. The Colonel recently arrived in New Zealand from Australia, where he held administrative positions of great responsibility, and he is recognised as a leading Bible student and speaker, and a thorough organiser.
