Rongotea
(From Our Own Correspondent.) There was quite a good attendance when the guest of honour was L.A.C. F. Rowe. The programme was a varied one and enjoyed by all, those contributing being Mrs Pearce and Mr. L. Rowe, vocal solos; Mrs. M. Dymock, Misses L. Fedley, Jocelyn Clark and Judith Ackins, elocutionary items; Miss Jean Gennills, steel guitar solos; a tap trio by Pam Hansen, Mary James and Alison Malcolm and an Irish jig snd “Farmyard Humour” by Maureen Dixon. The president of the R.S.A., Mr. E. N. Rowe, spoke on behalf of the Association and assured the guest of the evening that the interests of those serving overseas would be looked after. Mr. Amey, chairman of the Social Club, spoke on behalf of the residents and wished L.A.C. Itowe Godspeed and a safe return and on behalf of the district handed a gift to him. After supper dancing continued until a late hour to music supplied by the Bulls Patriotic Band. After being in recess for two years, the Rongotea and District Horticultural Society has decided to hold an Autumn Show on Saturday, March 11. It is hoped that Mr. M. H. Oram, M.P., will be present to open the show, the profits from which are to go to the Patriotic Society’s soldiers parcels’ fund. Mr. A. J. Shaller will judge the dahlia and miscellaneous flower sections, Mrs. A. N. Morcom the needlework and handwork, Mrs. C. S. Hamlin the domestic. There will be a short concert programme in the evening under the direction of Mrs. D. B. Rowe.
