Canadian Cardinal’s Plea for Rome
Received Monday, 8.50 p.m. OTTAWA, March 5. Cardinal Villeneuve, Archbishop of Quebec, in a statement on behalf of the Canadian Catholic archbishops, appealed to the authorities responsible for the conduct of the war to spare Rome. “We invite not only our Catholic sons but also those not indifferent to Rome’s future to join their prayers and endeavours with us so that the belligerent nations will not devastate the Eternal City, the precious crown of humanity. ’ ’
