Another Large-scale Effort Expected

(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) Received Tuesday, 12.20 a.m. LONDON, March 6. Both the Allies and the Germans are jockeying for position in the Anzio beachhead for the next round of the battle, reports the Columbia Broadcasting System’s Algiers correspondent. The Germans still have the initiative and every day our convoys are running the gauntlet of enemy bombers to bring up more and more supplies. The enemy is still hammering at our advanced positions, prodding, probing and meanwhile building up for another largescale effort to penetrate our lines. The weather has curtailed operations on all fronts in Italy, states a communique from Advanced Headquarters. The beachhead forces beat off a small enemy attack. Operations otherwise are confined to patrolling activity. Eighth Army troops repulsed an enem> attack in a localised action. There was patrolling activity on the main Fifth Army front. Continuous rain greatly reduced air operations yesterday, but fighterbombers attacked shipping off the Dalmatian coast and gun positions on the main Fifth Army front. None of our planes is missing. The Allies flew 250 sorties and only four enemy planes were reported over the battle area.
