Strict Control of Meat in Cool Storage

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 5. The following instructions have beeu issued bv Mr. Thomas (Food Controller) to all freezing works and cool stores: — . (1) No meat (including beei, veal, pork, mutton and lamb, but excluding coupon-free meats) at present held iu store is to be released to any person except by written authority from the Food Controller or from a rationing officer. (2) A return is to be forwarded to the Food Controller, Wellington, within seven days of all meat held in cool store as at the close of business yesterday on behalf of any person, giving particulars of each variety of meat held, the name of the owner and the date of the deposit. (3) This information is not required iu respect of stocks held for export or on behalf of licensed retail butchers or registered wholesalers. (4) On and after to-morrow further deposits of meat may be accepted for storage by a cool store from licensed butchers ' and registered wholesale butchers. (5) Excepting as provided in clause four, no meat may be accepted as from and including to-morrow from any other person unless he is the holder of a special authority issued by the Food Controller or by a rationing officer.
