MANAWATU AUTUMN MEETING, Mr. H. Coyle lias declared the following handicaps for the Manawatu Autumn meeting to he held at Awapuni on Saturday, March 18: K AIR AX G A HURDLES, HANDICAP, of £350; li miles.
FEILDING TO CARRY ON The committee of the Fetiding Jockey Club have definitely decided to carry on with the club’s Easter fixture, which is set down for April 8 and 10 ne*t.
HASTINGS TRACK WORK The outside of the course proper was used exclusively on Saturday morning for fast work, but the going was not fast, although in good order. Queen's Charm and Glenfalloch were associated in a mile trial, in which the former was always going best to beat Ids companion by three lengths in 1.471. All was not well with Glenfalloch (states “The Barb,” of the Tribune). Alone and carrying more weight than either of the above, Lastik ran the samfe d’stance in half a second faster time. The best mile went to the credit of Kinneff, who alone registered 1.46, the last seven furlongs occupying 1.32, and the last six 1.20. Palora, In coming home the last lour of an easy six-furlong gallop in 53|secs., was never allowed her head. Sorrell was hard held to remain alongside Da Vinci over three furlongs in 42* secs. Cuba had a slight advantage over P.attle Chief over four furlongs in 52£secs. Nightward and Sisu ran the last four furlongs of their task in 54secs.
NOT FOR WELLINGTON Poutatau, who did not pay up for the open sprint at Wellington, is at present an absentee from the Hastings tracks. After the Wellington January meeting he was cased up for a couple of weeks in the paddock, but on resuming training was affected by a spot of kidney trouble.
For this he has been treated, and should be back among the “actives” any day. Other notable absentees from Hastings for next week’s Trentham fixture are Lambourn and Boulder Dam. Both these horses were reported to be in great fettle. They are still at Woodville and have been nominated for Manawatu. Ever since the adoption of balloting by the Wellington Racing Club, Hawke’s Bay horses have been among the unlucky ones. For the one race at Trentham where the ballot was necessary two Hast-ings-trained horses in Haughty Queen and Catterick Bridge drew marbles.— “The Barb.” HAWKE’S BAY MEETING The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s autumn meeting, which is to be held on the Hastings racecourse on March 25 aim April 1, will consist of eight races each day. On the first day a mile highweiglu will be run. In its place on the second day a mile and a-lialf hurdle event is carded. The Hawke’s Bay Cup will be run on the first day and is valued at £6OO, including a £35 silver cup. There will be a six-furlong open sprint each day, as well us a 5} and six-furlong juvenile event respectively. The hack races tlie first day are run over seven, nine and eight furlongs, and on April 1 the distances are seven, ten (Hastings Hack Cup) and nine furlongs. The maiden race each day is run over threequarters of a mile. Nominations for all events close with the acting-secretary, Mr. H. M. Bishop, on Monday, March 13.
