Foxton

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Sea Scouts. At a meeting of the Foxton Sea Scout Committee, Mr. E. Field presiding, there was a good attendance. The meeting discussed the suggestion to change the name from “Sea Scouts” to “Land Scouts” but it was found that the committee did not have tho power to make the change without the consent of the public of Foxton. It was decided that the whaler boat owned by the Scouts be disposed of. Vital statistics for February, 1941 (February, 1943, in brackets): Births, 6 (6)j deaths, nil (nil); marriages, 2 (*>■ Weather: Rainfall February, 1944, l.SSin. Eight wet days. Maximum, fall .46in. on the 21st. Warmest day 77deg. on the 3rd. Coldest day sSdeg. on the 21st. Personal. Mrs. M. Wishart, of Park Street, has received word from her son, N. A. Wishart, who states he Is fit and well and that some time ago ho was in a picture entertainment in one of the islands of the Pacific when he met Noel Robinson, who also is well. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Chaffey, of Ravcnsworth Place, were delightfully surprised when their nephew, Flight-Sergeant Hector Neville, who is on furlough from the Islands, visited them unexpectedly. Mr. and Mrs. J. Neville, of Ohau, and late of Foxton, paid a flying visit to Foxton to meet and take back with them their sou, Flight-Sergeant Hector Neville. Mrs. M. Wishart has just returned from a pleasant holiday spent with her niece, Mrs. Perveal, of Putaruru. Mrs. A. M. Cook, of Howan Street, is once more up and about although not quite fully recovered from the accident which happened when “trying out” a young horse. Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Barrett, of Wellington, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Murphy, of Hall Street. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Coley, of Gladstone Street, have received cabled advice that their son, Reginald, who was reported wounded, is now out of danger and there is now no further cause for worry. Mrs. M. A. Ross is confined to her bed with a slight indisposition. In conjunction with the four local furlough men, Privates T. Baverstock and T. B. Davison, and Drivers V. Husband and R. McEwan, Sapper Taylor (brother of Mrs. Gordon Perreau) was a guest at the welcome home dinner given by tho Wives' and Mothers’ Club. Sapper Taylor was for Lj years a prisoner of war m Germany. The fortnightly card evening run by the Beach Improvement Society was well attended and the prize winners were: Ladies: Mrs. Nixon 1, tho second, after being played off for by Mrs. Andersen and Mrs. Sykes, resulting in a win for tho former. Consolation prize, Mrs. Jay; lucky prize, Mrs. Findlay. Men: Mr. C. Andersen 1, the second, after the play off, being awarded to Mr. W. Boyle who defeated Mr. Lash. Consolation prize, Mr. N. Wilson; lucky prize, Mr. Sands. The card party, run under the direction of tho combined Bowling and Croquet Committees, which was held on Tuesday instead of the usual Thursday this week, proved very successful. The prize winners were Mrs. M. E. Perreau and Mrs. S. E. Cowley. The social and dance, which followed the dinner of welcome given by the Wives’ and Mothers’ Club to the local returned men, was a great success due m no small measure to the efficiency of the M.C., Mr. W. R. Byne. Dancing was interspersed with the following items: Song, Mrs. J. Chittenden; community singing with Mrs. Riches as leader, and songs with guitar accompaniment, Messrs 11. Walls and N. Brown,
