Feilding Live Stock Sale

BREEDING EWE INQUIRY STILL FIRM LITTLE CHANGE IN STORE LAMB ! VALUES Interest in yesterday’s Feilding live stock sale was largely centred upon : the breeding ewe and store lamb values j which in the course of the selling reflected no material change on late quotations. The yarding of ewes was heavy and while condition was lacking in some instances the sheep were ot good quality. Good two-tooths experienced a strong demand at values close to, and in instances up to, ewe fair prices. A largo offering of store lambs came forward and these sold on a market which was quite buoyant, helped perhaps by the arrival of welcome rains. In the case of fat stock the market was by no means over supplied in view of tho introduction of meat rationing which operates from Monday next. Yesterday’s sale was the last on an unrestricted market and the entries were evidence of the caution adopted by vendors in facing this entirely new situation. Butchers, too, reflected a degree of caution in their operations in the knowledge that rationing will inevitably reduce the turnover. In most of tho sales prices for mutton registered an easing on last week’s rates, while beef sales were largely confined to exdairy sorts, there being but one or two transactions with station beef. The indications are that the fat stock market is likely to be unsteady for a week or two pending some data becoming available as to local and district consumption of meat. Fat Sheep. Between 300 and 400 head of fat sheep were yarded to experience a keen enough demand but at lower prices for mutton. A cautious tone was evident throughout.
