FLIGHT-LIEUT. JOHN GASKIN CLARIDGE, second son of Mrs. V. Claridge, of Opiki, who has been awarded the D.F.C., is the first boy from Opiki School to receive an award. He continued his education at Eketahuna and Palmerston North Boys’ High School and prior to joining the Air Force he was farming in Opiki. The citation states that he has completed manysuccessful operations against the enemy in which he has displayed high skill, fortitude and devotion to duty. Just immediately after receiving this good news Mrs. Claridge opened her "Manawatu Daily Times” to read that her boy had met Hon. Walter Nash in a lift in London and had been his guest at a luncheon and also attended a gathering of agriculturalists.
