Director of Army Welfare and Education
WELL-KNOWN EDUCATIONIST APPOINTED. Per Pre«« Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 2. The announcement that arrangements were being made for a scheme of educational training in the army and that the War Cabinet had approved of the appointment of Mr Douglas George Ball, senior inspector of schools, to the position of Director of Army Welfare and Education, was made to-night by Hon. F. Jones. Mr Ball will be the honorary rank of lieutenant-colonel. Mr Bali served overseas in the First New Zealand Expeditionary Force from January 1916 to April 1 19 and was promoted to commissioned rank on May 30, I*lß. He was mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig’s despatches published in the London Gazette on May 15, 1917. At present Mi* Ball is commanding officer of tho Makara battalion of the Home Guard.
