Boxing Year in Palmerston North
“My report on the year’s activities of our association must, in the nature of things, be something upon the lines of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ for, in common with kindred sports bodies, the exigencies of the war, with its tremendous drain upon the young manpower of the country, have had their effect upon our organisation in that the personnel from which to draw upon for matches, has not been available,” states the president, Mr. E. R. Wimsett, in his annual review of the activities of the Manawatu Boxing Association. “Thus it is that in the year just passed, no bouts have been . staged. Nevertheless, the interest in the sport has been maintained, so far as possible under the trying circumstances, and there is no doubt that upon a return to what our American friends and allies call ‘normalcy’ the sport will once again flourish, and be as popular as it hfcs un doubtedly been in the past.” AVONDALE GUINEAS The following remain in the Avondale Guineas, which is to be run on September 12, after the declaration of forfeit:— AVONDALE GUINEAS, £500; three-
