Automobile Association
The council of the Automobile Association (Manawatu) met last night. Mr. W. H. Brown presiding. A welcome was accorded to Mr. E. R. B. Holben on resuming his seat after his I recent illness. Appreciation of tho association’s further contribution of £SOO as an i interest-free loan for the duration ot (the war and six months thereafter, was received from the Prime Minister. This , makes the total lent to the Government I by the association £IOOO. Letters of appreciation were re- ! ceived from three members in respect of help given them by Fatrol C. 11. I Smart. f Arising out of a request by the National Security Department, it was decided not to issue further maps and I itineraries. Replying to a letter promising support for any action that could be taken ,to have the condition of Paekakariki Hill Road improved, the Automobile I Association (Wellington) said that i! I was only after it had made very strong representations that the road was retained as a main highway. Since the (opening of the Coast Road, the Hill Road had deteriorated somewhat, but steps had been taken recently to cleai i away some of the slips, and the asso- ; ciation was watching the positior closely so that the road would not fall into entire disuse. Nine new members were elected.
