Americans in Strategic Indian Town
Received Monday, Midnight. NEW YORK, Aug. 31. The New York Times’ India correspondent reports that a certain town in India became the key war centre since the Americans invaded it in ■ orce. The Americans have poured in thousands of troops and much material into the town in the last five months in a furious effort to prepare for anything the enemy might throw against it. The correspondent says the town’s importance derives from the fact that the Germans were advancing in the Caucasus and the Japanese on the Burma frontier. The Berne radio reports that a state of emergency has been declared throughout Iran which lies immediately south of the Russian Caucasus.
