Bigamy Admitted

A charge of bigamy was admitted in tho Palmerston North Magistrate's Court yesterday, by a labourer named Wallace Shing, aged 41. Tho offence was committed at Otaki on February 11, 1941. The. first wife gave evidence that she was married to accused at the office of tho registrar at Wanganui on August IS, 1930. On June 22, 1942 a divorce was granted her and she remarried on July 25, 1942. The second ‘ 1 wife ’' said she was married in 1936 but secured a divorce in February 1940. She first met accused in June 1940 and from then on till February 1941 she was closely associated with him. They went through a form of marriage on February 11, 1941 at Otaki in front of the registrar. Sinco then they had been living .together but there was no family. Witness said she knew of accused's previous marriage when she went through the form of marriage at OtakiDetective W. Roddick produced a statement made by accused, in which the offence was admitted. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court, Wellington, for sentence.
