Pigs, Popery and Produce
The Dominion Auctioneering Company report receiving a capacity yarding of pigs at their weekly sale on Thursday. A slight increase in pi-ice was noted for all lines. Poultry was in keen demand, a special entry of yearling hens realising from 6s 6d to 8s each. Fruit and produce were in the usual supply. Pigs: Weaners, 25s to 37s each; heavy stores, £2 12s to £3 Is; medium stores, 39s to £2 Is each; porkers, £2 17s 6d to £3 3s each; slips, 265, 295, 35s to £2 4s each; sows, to £2 12s each. Poultry: Best laying hens, 6s 6d to Ss; table hens, os to 6s 3d each; medium hens, 4s to 5s each; heavy cockerels, 6s to 7s each; others, 3s to 4s 6d each; roosters, 4s to 7s each; ducks, 4s 9d to 5s 6d each; drakes, heavy, 6s to 7s 6d each; medium, 4s to 5s 6d each. Produce: Spring cabbage, os to 9s 6d per sack; savoy cabbage, to 9s Gd per bag; best cauliflowers, 12s to 14s 9d per bag; seconds, 6s to 9s 6d per bag. lettuce, 9s to 16s per case; leeks, to 1: 7d per bundle; parsnips, 6s to 7s pei bag; carrots, 3s Gd to 4s 6d per bag; swedes, 2s 6d to 5s per bag; spinach, 16s to 17s per case; celery, 13s 6d to 15s per dozen bunches; silver beet, to Os per bundle; radishes, 2s 3d to 2s 6d per bunch; spring onions, to 2s 4d pci bunch; onions, £2 per bog.
