(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs. J. C. McJLaugnian, of Johnston Street, has been obliged to re-enter the Falmerston North Hospital, where she will undergo a further operation. Members of the Methodist Church, aunday School scholars, Girls’ Club members, Foxton Beach Sunday Schdol pupiis and parents met to honour Miss x\ancy Chrystall, whose marriage to Corporal R. Jack took place last week. Rev. C. A. Foston spone in terms of the highest praise of Miss Chrystali’s faithful service as a member of the church. After wishing her and Mr. Jacit happiness in the future, on behalf of church members he called on Miss Chrystall to accept a gift. Mr. F. J. Ricnes, superintendent of the Sunday School, spoke in eulogistic terms of Miss Chrystall’s work as a teacher and also extended good wishes to her. Rev. Foston ‘then called on the foliowmg to extend their good wishes and to mane presentations: Kindergarten department. Master Ronald Potcs; Sunday School scholars and teachers, Miss Evelyn Podmore; Girls’ Club, Miss Isabel Titcombe; Beach Sunday School, Miss Margaret Phllps. Mr. Phiips, speaking on behalf of the Beach residents, called on her to accept a gift as a token of their affection and appreciation. Mr. M. E. Perreau (chairman) presided over the monthly meeting of the Foxton Patriotic Committee. A statement of receipts and expenditure for block 4’s effort was received and. corigratulattons were extended to Mr. E. J. Murpny and his committee on their splendid achievement in raising £92 10s 7d. A letter was received from the Rationing Controller, regretting that he could net grant the request for 251bs. of sugar for maxing cakes lor shop days. It was decided to pay the sum of £IOOO into the zone account. A'sum of 87s 6d collected by Mrs. E. Titcombe was handed in. Mr. W. G. Nye tendered his resignation as secretary owing to his departure from the district. The chairman paid a tribute to Mr. Nye’s work and thanked him for his assistance and wished him well in his new spnere. Mr. D. Brooks was appointed to fill the vacancy. It was decided to open the patriotic shop on September « for the collection of waste paper. Mrs. R. O. Hornbiow (president) presided over a meeting of the committee of the Foxton Horticultural Society. It was decided to hold the spring show on September 14.
RATIONING COUPONS. TEA AND SUGAR. Those persons who have not negotiated their August tea and sugar coupons be- ‘ fore the 31st will be unable to do eo after that date when coupons 13-1 G for tea and 19-22 for sugar become available. Amendments and additions to the list of coupon values and instructions to traders axe notified elsewhere in this issue. < ( Woman Who Disobeyed Warden When a woman named Mary Ander- ! son, of Willis Street, Wellington, was j approached by a warden during an •K.P.S. trial on June 20, and told she would have to take shelter, she said she ! j was out for a walk and would continue j it. She refused to give her name. She j was stopped by another warden, then i a third, later by a traffic inspector, and finally by a constable. Still she re* fused to give her name, but after ehe [had been taken forcibly to the Mount j Cook police station sho expressed re* Igret at refusing to obey instructions, jln the Magistrate’s Court sho was fined £2 and costs by Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M. Senior Sergeant G. Paine said the wardens were not out for their own amusement, but for tho protection of the public. Counsel said the woman had mistakenly thought the first warden was trying to be ‘ ‘ fresh,' ’ and unfortunately she later becamo stubborn about the matter.
