Age-benefit Concession
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 27. A further enlargement of the scope of the age-benefit section of the Social Security Act is contained in Emergency Regulations in to-night’s Gazette. The new regulations provide that, when the period of employment during which the age beneficiary has not received the benefit ceases, the earnings of the beneficiary may be exempted under the income section of the Act when application is made for renewal of the benefit. The Minister of Social Security (Hon. W. E. Parry) stated to-night that the new provision largely benefits the seasonal worker. While benefiting age beneficiaries generally, the regulations removed particularly somewhat of the handicap from the seasonal worker irora the standpoint of earnings when, •<n the cessation of his period of employment, he applied for reinstatement of the age benefit. The regulations wor’d also facilitate, under the policy of the Government, the re-absorption of ohysically-fit age beneficiaries into Industry.
