WAIROA, Aug. 27. In spite of the atrocious weatuer conditions, the police are still carrying out the inquiries regarding the deaths ox. Brigadier A. Smyth and Miss K, bmytn. These entail many journeys to outlying districts and these are proving arduous owing to cold and heavy rain. it now appears that the time of the tragedy is gradually being defined and, by the indications, everything in con nection with the investigation is progressing satisfactorily. As is usual with this type of crime, the inquiries will entail considerable work, and it may be some days before anything further of an important nature will become known. Chief-Detective Young’s appeal tor information from any person likely to shed light on the date when either Brigadier Annie Smith or Miss Rosamond Smyth was last seen has brought a vast number of replies. “Every piece of information is followed up and we welcome them all,” said ChiefDetective Youncr.
