Easing the Blackout
CITY COUNCIL MAY NOW ACT. The New Zealand Gazette of August 20 contains amended regulations concerning the easing of the black-out, operating as from August 27. Open spaces situated outside any coastal area may be lighted at night for any purpose, so long as the power of the lights is restricted to the extent necessary to prevent sky-glow being visible from any point ten miles or more out to the open sea. The power of every road and street light-source shall be so adjusted that the sky glow from the lighting system of which It is a part shall not be visible with unaided vision from any point ten miles or more out to the open sea. The restrictions in respect of interior house and shop lighting are eased, the main matter to be guardec against being sky-glow.
