Plunket Shield Performances

DONNELLY HEADS BATTING AVERAGES PRITCHARD TAKES MOST WICKETS The Plunket Shield match now being played between Auckland and Canterbury is the virtual final of the New Zealand championship. A review of the Plunket Shield performances prior to the commencement of this match shows the southern batsmen on top, and [ the honours reversed iu the bowling section. Two notable failures to make the list of principal batting performers are those of Moloney and Kerr, the Otago and Canterbury captains, both of whom were members of the 1937 New Zealand team which toured Great Britain. Moloney has been dismissed thrice for a total of 25 runs, while Kerr failed to score in the first innings against Otago and Wellington, and made four runs in, his second innings against the Dunedin side. He was caught on all three occasions, twice off Lemiu and once off Pritchard. The rivalry between the two national express bowlers, Cowie and Pritchard, continues to be keen. Although the Manawatu player has taken a couple more scalps, Cowie shades him by over three runs-in the cost per wicket.
