NOMINATIONS TO-DAY TRENTHAM AND ASHHURST With autumn ruciug approaching, owners and trainers should not overlook the fact that nominations for the summer meetings of the Wellington and Ashhurst-Pohangina clubs close to-day. The Wellington Centennial Cup, with a stake of £3OOO in addition to the £2OO gold cup, is the principal- event at Trentham, where the meeting will be held on January 18, 20 and 22. The Telegraph Handicap, the open sprint on the first day-, will be worth £IOOO, as also will be the Wellington Racing Club Handicap on the second day and the Summer Handicap on the third day. The second and third day sprints carry stakes of £750 each, and the Wellington Stakes, the five-furlong “classic’' for two-year-olds on the opening day, is worth £7OO. Another feature event is the Douro Cup or the second day, this being worth £575, inclusive of a £75 cup. No race at the meeting is worth less than £350. Entries are due at 5 p.tn. to-day. The Ashhurst-Pohangina club’s meeting will be held on the Anniversary pay holiday, Monday, January 22, and stake money totals £ISOO, which makes it an attractive country piogramme. The club should not suffer from the clash with the final day at Trentham, for many owners will elect to come to Ashhurst after the first two days at Trentham. The Ashhurst Cup is worth £320, the Mauawatu Gorge Hack Cup £225, and the Pohangina Handicap £2OO. The Raumai Handicap, an. open seven-fur* Jong event, is worth £175, and there are attractive stakes for the hacks, the hurdlers and the maiden runners. Nominations are due at 9 p.m. to-day.
