THE YEAR’S RAINFALL IN FIGURES
Weather Was Drier in 1939 Than in 1938 JULY WETTEST MONTH LAST YEAR It would appear from the rainfall figures as recorded by Mr. J. C. Bolton, Gorge Road, that Woodville residents found it necessary to use their raincoats, umbrellas and goloshes on fewer occasions last year, when 50.92 inches of rain fell, than during 1938, when the total was 58.70 inches, or 7.7 S inches greater. The individual figures for the twelve months of 1939 show that the total fail for January was 2.98in5., FebAiary .66ins., March 1.27in5., April 5.88in5., May 2.24m5., June 6.51m5., Jhily 9.6lins„ August B.llins., September 3.97in5., October 4.13in5., November 1.95in5., December 3.61in5., a total of 50.92ia5. In December, 1939, rain fell on 11 days, the maximum fall being I.s4ins. on the 11th of tho month. The days upon which rain fell and the figures for those days are as follows:—December 2, .38ins.j December 3, .02ins.; December 7, .56ins.; December 9, .12ins.; December 10, .28ins.j December 11, 1.54in5.; December 12, ,09ins.; December 15, .Ooins.; December 26, .12ins.; December 27, .OGins.; December 28, •339in5.; total, 3.6lins. For the month of December, 1938, Mr. Bolton recorded 9.24 inches, which was considerably more than for the same month last year. It is also of interest to note that the average rainfall per annum in Woodville is approximately 45 inches, thus the last two years' rainfall have been above average.
