Navy’s Greatest rind.
Naval officials consider that the shattered U-boat discovered on the Goodwin Sands in November was the greatest ‘'iind ,, of the war. Submarine and salvage experts have been in the boat since it was found. Part of the conning tower and some of the periscope could bo seen from the shore with the aid of glasses, but weather conditions were so bad that it was impossible for small craft to approach the wreck. It was thought possible at Deal that the boat did not run on to the Goodwinr under her own power, but was sunk in deeper waters by depth charges or bombs, and that some of her bulkheads have been undamaged, permitting her to bump along the sea bed. Sixty bodies were recovered from the submarine.
