Busy Day for Major-General Freyberg

CAMP INSPECTIONS AND CIVIC RECEPTION AUCKLAND, Jan. 2. Troops of tho Second New Zealand Division, encamped in the Northern Military District met their commanding officer Major-General Freyberg at parades at the Mopuhopu and Papakura camps to-day. Both parades were carried through iu a manner which proved that the raw recruits of a few months ago have now become very fine soldiers and General Freyberg expressed great satisfaction with what ho saw at both camps. Even after tho extremely busy day General Freyberg and his staff had no respite. They left immediately for Auckland to attend a civic reception before catching the Limited Express for Wellington. With an enthusiasm that was remarkable the audience of 3000 at the civic reception at the Town Hall greeted and paid tribute to General Froybcrg who spent little more than two hours in the city. It was necessary for the civic reception to bo tendered at 6 p.m. where ho was received with the general salute by a guard of 40 veterans of-the Great War under Captain Judson, V.C. The two Victoria Cross holders exchanged a long and hearty handshake and spoke for a few minutes before the inspection. The proceedings at the civic reception were very enthusiastic.
