His victories were with Royal Consort, Laughing Lass twice, and Wings of Song. Next in order were A. G. Parsons (Bronze Lass and Renascor), D. Redstone (Royal Sign and Ecstatic), and the amateur rider, Mr. F. J. Calder, who won on the first day with Haupongi and who dead-heated with Joe Louis (Mr. E. W. Watson, junr.) on the second day. Single wins were secured by C. L. Kerr (Limbohm), R. Hawes (Windsor Chief), J. Pratt (Royal Sign), P. Jarvis (High Peer), K. Chote (Dynasty) and W. Jenkins (Gold Chase). PLOUGH HORSE MAKES GOOD Peggotty is not the only trotter to have helped pull a plough and then become a shining light on tho race track. George Arliss won both trotting races at Reefton on a preparation largely composed of plough work (states tho Reefton correspondent of the Star-Sun.) Owned at Rakaia by Mr. S. Shellock, and trained and driven by W. Shellock, who mot with some success when he raced Kippagh, Georgo Arliss, like his actor namesake, has at last proved that he can play his part on the day. Solidity was tho chief factor contributing to his successes. Used as a general utility horse on the farm, ho raced without success some seasons back and was bought at a bargain price by his present owner. Farmers at Rakaia have had little faith in his ability, but now it is the turn of the Shellocks to laugh, as the aged Nelson Derby gelding, which is from a mare by Calm, has made the grade in handsome style. Greymouth will see him next in action and it does not look as though ho has finished winning yet.
