Dead-heat in Amateur Riders’ Race Joe Louis and Haupongi were bestbacked in the Ladies’ Necklace, and at the finish the .iudge was unable to separate them. Baron Bold missed the jump out and trailed tho field for the greater part of the journey. When they had settled down Kohika, Haupongi, Prinihia, Great Fair, Battle Pomp, Lacan and Joe Louis was the order. Then Haupongi went into the lead and was followed into the straight by Battle Pomp and Joe Louis, with Baron Bold making up his leeway. Battle Pomp dropped out of llio contest at the distance and Haupongi and Joe Louis had a great battle to tho judge, who declared a dcad-hcat. Four lengths back was Battle Pomp, with Lacan and Baron Bold next. Following tho dcad-hcat in the Ladies’ Necklace, Messrs. E. M. Ryder (owner of Haupongi) and J. F. Walker (owner of Joe Louis) decided the ownership of the trophy by the spin of a coin, Mr. Ryder winning tho toss. Thus ho secured both trophies at tho meeting. Easy for Wings of Song Backers were prepared to accept a short prico > about Wings of Song in the Junction Plate and they never had reason for anxiety. The Hunting Song gelding jumped out smartly and won without being oxtended. Talenta followed the other two starters to the straight and then ran up for second place, live lengths behind Wings of Song, and a neck ahead of Nationalist, who just beat Goldburn. Win for High Peer Limbohm carried a little more than High Peer in the Tutaenui Hack Hurdles, but the pair finished in tho reverse order. Gold Tray made tho early pace, but at the end of half a mile High Peer ran past him and Esperance Bay also moved up to follow High Peer into the back stretch, with Gold Tray and Limbohm next. Gold Tray made another dab at the halfmile, but Limbohm ran past into second place and followed High Peer into the straight and over the last fence, where Gold Tray came to grief. High Peer ran home an easy winner by four lengths from Limbohm, with Esperance Bay six lengths back and Golden Ridge beaten oil. When Gold Tray fell in the Tutaenui Hack Hurdles, her rider, B. Cosford, suffered head injuries and was removed in tho ambulance to St. Catherine’s Hospital, Marton, where ho was examined by Dr. J. R. Macneil, honorary medical officer to the Marton Jockey Club. It was ascertained that Cosford had a fracture of the base of the skull, and after tho last race he was removed to the Palmerston North Public Hospital. Royal Sign Beats Kotua Royal Sign, favourite at a good price for tho Wairoma Handicap, won well from his stablemnte, Kotua. Royal Sign joined Kincora in the lead at the end of two furlongs, and Kotua, Vadanoe, Bronze Lass, Peach King and Hasten followed them down the back. Royal Sign led into the straight from Kincora, and then Kotua challenged, failing by half a head only to catch Royal Sign. Two lengths back was Bronze Lass, and then came Vadanoe, Kincora and Hasten. Attractive Win by Laughing Lass Lady Montana was favourite for the Aldworth Stakes, but Laughing Lass stayed on to beat Play On. Old Surrey led out of tho straight, with Play On, Aurora’s Star and Laughing Lass next. Along the back Old Surrey was four lengths ahead of Laughing Lass and Play On, but on the home turn the leader was collared and Laughing Lass ran to tho front, staying on to win by a length and a-quarter from Play On. A similar distance back was Old Surrey, with Aurora’s Star fourth. Stable’s “Hat Trick” Duncannon was favourite for tho Telegraph Handicap, but he had to be content with third place, behind Ecstatic and Russian Ballet. From the rails position Ecstatic jumped out smartly and led Solaria down the back, with Russian Ballet and Duncannon next, but First Chapter then ran up to join Ecstatic. Russian Ballet improved her position crossing tho top and followed Ecstatic into tho straight, but Ecstatic held on to win by a good head from Russian Ballet. Two lengths back was Duncannon, ahead of Solaria, First Chapter being a long way back. Dynasty Pays a Price Hunting Lore was backed as unbeatable in tho Rangitikei Hack Cup, but at tho finish he was well beaten by Dynasty, who returned a dividend of over a score. Segra, Thrasos and Chere Amie set out as pacemakers, with Hunting Loro well placed behind the leaders and Te Oriko and Dynasty at the rear of the field. The order was little changed down the back, save that Colibri moved up alongside Hunting Lore, and it was not till the field was crossing the top that Dynasty improved his position, coming through on tho rails behind Hunting Lore. When -the latter was pulled out to get a run at tho distance, Dynasty dashed through to win by two lengths. Hunting Lore was a similar distance ahead of Colibri, | who covered a good deal of extra [ground. Then came Caution, Segra and Israel. Gold Chase Brilliant Gold Chase was favourite for the concluding cvept, and after beginning well

ho never left the issue in doubt. Daregain, Debretts and Scandal were slow to begin and ttbld Chase, The Smiler, Filetto and Pretty Lass were in that order into the straight, where Gold There was a good tussle for second and Chase easily held on for a decisive "win. Filetto held on to beat Pretty Lass by half a neck. The Smiler was fourth and Scandal fifth.
