Rev. E. Chard, of Perth, Australia, has been appointed assistant priest at St. Peter's Cathedral, Hamilton. A London cabl<3 states that Patrick George Murray, of Nelson, a member of the Royal Corps of Signals, was accidentally killed on duty. Dr. W. H. Riddell, Charge d’Affaires at the Canadian Legation at Washington, has been appointed High Commis sioner to New Zealand. Dr. Riddell was for 12 years Canadian representative at the League of Nations and was •earlier Minister of Labour in Ontario. Tho death occurred at Crawley, Sussex, on December I of Mr. John Henry Grant, formerly of tho Bank of New Zealand, states a London correspondent Mr. Grant was a member of the bank's London staff for more than 40 years, and before ho retired 10 years ago had been secretary to the London board of directors for 35 years.
