Great Mass Air-raids in China

The Japanese Army and Navy, in a joint statement, said they had carried out the greatest mass air raids of the war on Lanchow, with three days of bombings. This was described as a brilliant prelude to the anniversary of the founding of the Japanese Empire. Chinese sources have reported the bombing and destruction of the China Inland Mission at Hochu, in the Shansi province, by Japanese planes. A Norwegian missionary, Pastor Jesen, was killed. JAPANESE CABINET REFUSES TO RESIGN TOKIO, Dec. 28. The Prime Minister, General Abe, declared to-day that Cabinet did not intend to resign and would not be troubled by the “manoeuvres of professional politicians. ’ ’ General Abe's statement is a reply to the circulation of a petition among the Opposition parties expressing noconfidence in the Cabinet for the failure of its domestic policy. JAPANESE ESTIMATE OF KILLED Received Friday, 11.20 p.m. TOKI6, Dec. 29. Imperial headquarters have announced that 1,218,462 Chinese soldiers have been killed between July, 1937, and November, 1939. Japanese deaths between October, 1938, and December, 1939, were 27,000, while 18,000 Japanese were killed and wounded in the Russo-Japanese clash.
