Advice Bureaux Help Puzzled Citizens

UNRAVELLING WAR TIME PROBLEMS (British Official Wireless.) Received Friday, 7 p.m. RUGBY, Dec. 28. At the outbreak of war Citizens’ Advice Bureaux were set up in London and the provinces under the auspices of the National Council of Social Service, to give advice on family and personal problems in wartime. They now number 980 and reports show they have fulfilled a valuable function in bringing help to tens of thousands faced with complex difficulties and puzzled by the mass of wartime regulations. The bureaux are staffed by volunteers experienced in social service. One of tho more particular examples of the work at the bureaux recently has been the arrangement through the Red Cross for sending messages through Geneva for relatives in Germany—many of the inquiries were for refugees. Already over 6000 such messages have been arranged.
