From Our Own Corresnoiident. Farewell to Ounoer Iran Vautier Although the evening was wet, there was a large and representative gathering to bid tarewell to the first local boy, Ivan \autier, to enter military camp and who is shortly to leave J'or overseas. The eveding consisted of a short programme of items interspersed With dancing. The items were in charge of .Mr. J. Morris, and the M.C. tor the dance was Mr. F. Eagle. Songs were rendered by Mr. John Brown, Mr Len Wood, Mr. John Woodd and Misses Jvv (.lark and Pauline Hastie. Accompanists were Mr. Cater, Mr. George Dawson and Miss li. Stevens. An elocutionary item was given by Master John Coutts. A Keel o’ Tulloch, a Highland reel and an Irish Jig were given by tour pupils of Miss Juno Scott, namely, ‘ 18888 doan Lynch, Betty Simpson, Saidi Anderson and Dot .McLean. Mr. George Pilcher acted as piper. For the dance the music was played bv Mr Cater and extras were played by Messrs George Skinner, J. Bomley and" T. Ban ford. These gentlemen gave their ser vices gratis and were thanked on bchal of the farewell committee by the chair man, Mr. E. Hcnaghan. The hall wa decorated with British and Frencl flags, this being done by Miss M Phillips and Miss E. Woodd. Just prio to the last dance, Mr. Henaghai thanked all artists for their assistanci in contributing to such a successfu evening. Just before supper the gucs of the evening was conducted to thi stage where Mr. Hcnaghan, on behal: of the district, presented to him a wrist let watch. Mr. Henaghan, as an old sol dier, conveyed the best wishes of all tc Ivan, who had grown up in the district and was a member of a highly respect ed family which had taken a prominent part in affairs of the district for manj years. Mr. J. Bomley spoke on behall of the residents of the district and Mr 11. Wood, on behalf of the Tennis Clul and other sports bodies, including th< harriers, of which club the guest is s member. Personal. Visitors to Whakarongo at presenl are Mr. P. Vautier, Wellington ; Mr. ami Mrs. E. Vautier, Colyton; Mr. and Mrs. H. Gore, Newbury; and Mr. and Mrs A. Lancaster, of Te Awamutu. \ isitors to AVellington at present arc Miss E. Woodd and Mrs. K. Wood. Miss Jean Wood is a guest of Mrs. W. J. Port, of Levin. Mr. E. Morris and Mr. P. Cater arc on a motor tour in the Auckland dis trict. Mr. Frith is home from hospital.
