Raumai
From Our Own Correspondent. School Picnic. The Ashhurst Domain presented an animated scene when, in ideal weather, the Raumai School held their annual picnic. Parents and other helpers had I worked to make the event a success, land a glance at the happy, smiling I youn" faces was sufficient proof that :these efforts had been successful in every detail. Besides the usual picnic ‘tare, sweets, ice-cream and soft drinks j were provided. While luncheon was j being prepared in the big dining-room, ; the children made full use of the amusement facilities of the Domain, particular attention being given to the swings rind merry-go-rounds. Races for the varilous classes were run, much amusement being caused by some of the novelty ! races. Afternoon tea over, the prizeIgiving ceremony took place, each child I receiving a book. A special prize doj nyted by Air. G. H. Bennett was awardled to Peggy Loamy, dux of the school, [for general excellence. The chairman
of the school committee, Mr. B. B Bockett, thanked all those who had contributed to the picnic fund, thereby making possible the presentation of so many valuable book prizes. He also paid tribute to the efficient teaching of Air. Short as evidenced by the report of the senior inspector which had just been received. It was gratifying to find the Raumai Bchool so highly graded.
