GENEVA SURVEY J iftilted Press Association—By Electric * Telegraph—Copyright. ‘ . GENEVA, Dec. 27. An International Labour Office sur- j vey states that there was a great in* ( crease in unemployment in the belligerent and neutral countries following the ; outbreak of war. Only the United States and Canada show a decrease. 1 The mobilisation of millions of men ] and the boom in war industries have not absorbed the numbers of unemploy- ! ed caused by trade restrictions, the closing of peacetime industries, and the appearance of women seeking jobs, adds the survey. British unemployed from mid-August to mid-November increased by 173,000, and French unemployed by 14,000 during September. The German figures are not available, but it is estimated that there was an increase despite the formation of new labour battalions and the increased activity of munitions factories. Belgian, Danish, Greek, Norwegian and Chilean unemployed also increased The survey reveals a world-wide « shortage of skilled labour. ——— 1
