First Indian Troops Arrive in France
LONDON, Dec. 27. The first Indian contingent, entirely consisting of Moslems, with their own priests, cooks, water-carriers and sweepers have landed in France under the leadership of British and Indian officers. They will wear Indian winter kit, which the authorities are supplementTho officers aro buying livestock, mostly goats, which must be ceremonially slain. These will supple* ment special food, including rice, ghee, lentils, flour, and other ingredients of curries. Tho British commissariat will supply tea, sugar, and vegetables. Tho contingent’s transport includes a number of mules. The men will bo dispersed in small units in forward areas. They will bo housed in nissen huts and will bo subject to Indian military law.
