Hitler’s Mentality

A FEROCIOUS EGOTISM A pathological analysis of the mental and moral make-up of Hitler is made in the Paris Soir by Dr. Logre, head of the special hospital attached to tho Paris Prefecture, and a distinguished neurologist and alienist. He comes to tho conclusion that Hitler’s mentality displays a quality which many Gernjans share—a lack of balance where political and moral judgment are concerned. He suffers from an aggressor’s type of moral degeneracy. A criminal, says Dr. Logre, is often found to possess brilliant qualities of mind and character. But what brings him in conflict with the police is the lack of moral sense. He has neither charity, compassion, scruples, nor remorse. This appears to fit Hitlei/s personality, which is dominated by a craving to rule over others in the name of a “superior race.” He displays a ferocious and rapacious egotism, to which the great part of the German people has attached itself, as it has to other non-moral leaders in the past. Dr. Logre *s practical experience leads him to put forward only one real solution—that of depriving this frenzied fanatic of the material ability to do further harm.
