SOLDIERS & COMMUNISTS CLASH IN SYDNEY

SYDNEY, Dec. 25. Lively scenes, with the danger of a serious riot, were witnessed at the Sydney Domain on Sunday, when about 50 soldiers on leave raided a Communist platform, tore down the Red Flag and ripped it to pieces and burnei it within view of 2,000 cheering and hooting spectators. Police, heavily reinforced, drew their batons and scattered the disturbers, some of whom exchanged blows and were trampled underfoot. The uniforms of three constables were slashed with razor blades. Three arrests were made.

A youthful Communist orator later became a target for a fusillade of tomatoes, most of which landed on the Sunday suits of those surging round him.
