New Zealand Plane Factory in Production
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. The De Havilland Aircraft Co.’s factory is in production. The first of 100 planes ordered by the Government for use as light trainers are out of their cases and away. The Empire airways scheme has grown since the order was placed, and under it New Zealand airmen will receive advanced training in Canada, but there is still need for a large number of trainers at New Zealand ’ bases. The scheme is more likely to. be enlarged than reduced. The first month’s output is straightout assembly, but as subsequent shipments come to hand more and more of the contents of the cases will. be semi-manufactured and later the contents will comprise raw material, apart from motors, instruments and ccrtair metal parts. The Work will be undertaken a Rongotai. De Havillands decided on s factory a year ago • for commercial planes, but the war speeded matter: up. The planes are the latest of the D.H light-model biplanes and are fitted will a full range of instruments for all in itial training and for navigational in struction and blind flying.
