Magnolia Satin For November Bride
HILL—BURGESS WEDDING Bt. Paul’s Presbyterian Church,Feilding, was the scene of a very attractive wedding on the eve of November 15, the bride being Dorothy Noelene Cecily, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. J. Burgess, of “The Glenn,” Beattie .Street, Feilding, was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony with Clement Alfred, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Hill, of Bredin’s Line, Marton. Rev. R. Warnock, of Palmerston North, was the officiating minister and Mr. A. E. Matheson presided at tho organ. The church had been fcharmingly decorated for the ceremony by friends of the bride in shades of magnolia and primTho petite bride, who was given in marriage by her father, had chosen a simply fashioned gown of magnolia slipper satin, which suited her to perfection. The close-fitting bodice had a heart-shaped neckline and was pointed on to Fno skirt and finished with selfcovered buttons to the waist. The long, tight-fitting sleeves were pointed over the hands and puffed at tho shoulderline to provide fullness, and the full, panelled skirt swept to form a long train. Her ambroidcred veil of parchment tulle appliqued with satin flowers, worn over the face on entering the church, was hold back on the head by gold flowers and fell to form a second train. Sho carried a trailing bouquet of deep cream roses intermingled with trails of asparagus and maidenhair fern, with satin streamers. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a lucky gold horse-shoe by her wee cousin, June Carncross, of Wellington. The attractive duo of maids in attendance on the bride were Miss Dorothy Hill (chief), tho bridegroom’s sister, and Miss Ethel Thompson, of Feilding. They were similarly attired in frocks of pale primrose satin beaute, the close-fitting bodice, which had short puffed sleeves, featuring heart-shaped necklines, self-covered buttons to the waists finishing the bodices. The panelled skirts were fully flared. Topknots of primrose and green velvet flowers, with apple green satin shoes were worn, and they carried shower bouquets of deep cream roses, and orange Chinese latterns, with maidenhair and asparagus fern aud green satin streamers.' wore ti\e gifts of . the bridegroom, a wristlet watch and crystal necklet, respectively. Mr. Frank Hill, of Marton, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, the groomsman being Mr. Horace Burgess, brother of the bride. Ushers at the church were Messrs. Frank Hill, cousin of the bridegroom, and Gobin Parker, of Feilding. The reception following was held in the Drill Hall, where 120 guests were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Burgess, the latter. receiving in a distinctive gown of navy unerushable crepe with navy hat worn with a black chappelle fur coat. Her bouquet was of red roses. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Hill assisted, the latter wearing a navy pin-striped costumo and navy hat with fur stole, her bouquet being of pink roses. Mrs. D. Cairncross, the bride’s grandmother, was present, wearing a black floral frock and black coat and hat, her bouquet being of raauve-shaded flowers. The tables were decorated with Iceland poppies, taking pride of place on the bridal table was the much-admired three-tiered cake, made by the bride’s mother, tho icing decorations toning with the frocks of tho bride and her ’inaids. These were effected by Mr. Weightman. Rev. R. Warnock capably carried out the duties of toastmaster, the usual toasts being duly honoured and several telegrams were read by the best man. The guests were later entertained at a dance, music being supplied by Mr. A. Wright, and extras were given by Miss S. Renall and Mr. R. Legge. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr. T. Howlett. When Mr. and Mrs. C. Hill left by car, the bride appeared for travelling in a navy striped suit, navy hat and accessories. The happy couple had many lovely gifts showered upon them, including several cheques, which guests were | privileged to view at “Tho Glenn.” I Tho popular pair were given a prewedding party by Mrs. L. Gaisford, who | presented them on behalf of “Homeleigh” with a beautiful bevelled mirror.
